A fund raising evening for our "Raise the Roof" project

Although she died 200 years ago, Jane Austen’s books still hold resonance to today’s reader due to her sharp insight into human relationships and the role of women in society.  As one of the world’s favourite authors, Jane Austen created some of our best loved literary characters: Mr Darcy, Elizabeth Bennet and Emma Wodehouse immediately spring to mind.

“I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading!  How much sooner one tires of anything than a book” (Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice)

Join the Rotherfield Players for a supper evening celebrating the life of Jane Austen in her two best loved pass-times, Words and Music. Re-live all those famous characters and quotes through extracts read from her novels, performances of much  loved songs and music of the time and even hear what her nephew (James Austen Leigh) wrote about Jane in her biography.

“It isn't what we say or think that defines us, but what we do.” (Jane Austen, Sense and Sensibility)

This is a fundraising event in support of the ‘Raising the Roof’ appeal for the village hall, ticket price includes supper and a welcome drink.
